Have you ever wondered your PS5 games won't start or stuck on the loading screen? you are in the right place. The PS5 not starting games can be very frustrating and annoying. Here I will explain why your PS5 is not starting games and how to fix this issue.
Your PS5 is not starting games because you have the wrong Game Presets Settings, bad internet connection, corrupt game, bad game disk or the disk drive is faulty.
We will now go through all the problems mentioned above why your PS5 console is not starting games and how to fix them.
Let's dive straight to it so that you can start playing your games right away.
1. Wrong Game Presets
If your PS5 Game Presets Settings are wrong, your games will not start. Most PS5 games have high resolution. If the you are using monitor does not meet the resolution needed for a certain game, the game will not start.
The PS5 however has an option to reduce the resolution to a reasonable one which will best suit your monitor.
Once your change game preset mode you should be able to play games again.
Here's how to change game presets
Changing Game Presets Settings is very easy. You can either change the Game Presets Settings from the game itself or from the PS5 system software Settings.
Since we are dealing with the games not starting, this leaves us with only changing the game presets mode from the PS5 system software Settings.
To change the game presets on PS5 follow the steps below;
- Go to the (Settings)
- Select [Saved Data and Game/App Settings]
- Select [Game Presets]
- Select [Performance Mode or Resolution mode]
- Select Performance Mode
Understanding Game Presets option on PS5
Game Presets option on PS5 is an option that allows you to adjust the graphics and resolution of the game when booting.
Most games on PS5 will boot with the highest resolution, this is because developers have set their default booting graphics and resolution.
Hence sometimes games won't start if your monitor you are using does not support high resolution.
However, you can change that with the Game Preset option. Games can boot with low resolution once you change the option on [Performance mode and Resolution Mode] to [Performance Mode]
2. Bad Internet Connection
If your PS5 games are not starting or they are stuck on the loading screen. It could also be that you have a bad internet connection or that your internet connection is down.
This usually happens because when some games are starting they have to check for online profiles, your settings preferences etc.
If the game can't reach the server to check for this information, it will be stuck on the loading screen forever waiting for an internet connection.
Another reason is that the PS5 can't verify the purchases of your games. To do this the PS5 is supposed to have a working internet connection so it can verify with the PSN server.
The PS5 will sometimes not show that the games are locked and that they need to be re-verified, when technically the games are locked.
If you want to be sure that the games are really locked and need to be re-verified clear the PS5 cache by following the steps below
- Turn off the PS5 completely.
- Press and hold the on button until you hear a second beep.
- Connect your controller through a USB cable, press the PS button.
- Select option 5 [Clear Cache and Rebuild Database].
- Select Clear Cache.
Once you have cleared the PS5 cache, the games should now appear to be locked.
The Fix
Check to see that your access point is working accordingly if you have a router you can start by checking if it on.
If you are using a wired connection ensure that the wires are correctly connected between the PS5 and the router.
Alternatively you can test your internet connection from the PS5 or see if your PS5 is currently connected to any access point. To do this follow the steps below.
- Select (Setting)
- Go to [Network]
- Select [Connection Status]
This should show you the network you are connected to. You can now test the internet connection to see if it succeeds.
If it doesn't succeed, connect your PS5 to a good working internet connection and start your game. Your game(s) should now start without any issue.
Another alternative is you can restore licenses on your PS5 by follow the steps below;
- Go to (Settings)
- Select [Users and Accounts)
- Select [Other]
- Select [Restore Licenses] and select restore
Wait for the operation to finish and start your game again.
3. Corrupt Game
Another reason why your PS5 console can't start your game is because it can't read some of the game files in the game.
This is mostly accompanied with an error but sometimes it will just sit there loading because it can't find the files it needs.
If the error you get is ce-107891-6 or some thing similar refer to this article How to Fix Error ce-107891-6 [PS5 Solved]
You can try deleting your game and downloading it again to see if that helps. or if you are using a game disk delete the installed game and put back your disk into the disk drive.
You can now try to start the game again.
4. Bad game disk
It is also possible that why your PS5 won't start the game is because of a bad game disk. A bad game disk will not start because the PS5 won't be able to recognize it.
Usually a bad game disk will show an error.
To fix a bad game disk clean it with a dry cloth and check for finger finger prints on the game disk. The game disk will not work if it has finger prints on it.
5. Faulty Disk Drive
This one is not very common but it is becoming an issue. A faulty disk drive will make your PS5 console not to start the game. This issue is usually accompanied by a loud disk drive sound or like it's jerking.
If you PS5 is still under warrant, you might want to replace it.
Final Thought
As we have seen from the article above, I have listed the common reasons why your PS5 won't start games starting with the most relevant one which is the game presets settings.
Another reason I have been thinking about is a bad HDMI cable. A bad HDMI cable will not deliver the right bandwidth to the monitor you are using.
This will cause the game to not start as the HDMI is not working properly which brings us back to the resolution and the Game presets option.
Though I don't think the game will start even after changing the game presets option as the HDMI is bad.
See this article on the HDMI the PS5 uses What HDMI cable comes with the PS5?
