When you get the error 'An error has occurred in the following application. (CE-34878-0). You can simply fix it by restarting your PS4. This works because as we talked earlier in the article about one of the causes of this error been the game crushing. When the game has crushed a simple restart should fix this issue.

2. Reinstalling the Game/Application

If the error persists after restarting the console or it continues coming up while you are playing your game or an application then it is time to reinstall the game/application.

You can reinstall your game/application by pressing the option button on the game/application of your choice and then selecting delete.

If you had a digital game you can then go into [Library] > (Purchased) and then select the game you wish to reinstall and download it.

If you had a physical game disk just put in the game disk and it will install on it's own.

  1. Download the latest system software update from Here
  2. Format your USB flash drive to exFAT file system.
  3. Create the following directory in the root of your USB flash drive. PS4 > UPDATE
  4. Save the system software you downloaded in step one in the UPDATE folder. The directory should now read PS4 > UPDATE > PS4UDATE.PUP
  5. Plug the USB flash drive to your PS4 and start it in safe mode by pressing and holding the on button until you hear the second beep.
  6. Connect your controller through the USB cable, Press the PS button and select option 3 [Update System Software]
After the update is complete start your game and see if the problem is resolved.

5. Rebuild Database

When you have not Rebuild Database in a long the files on the hard drive get scattered making it difficult for the PS4 to access files. Remember we said that when the console is unable to read/access files on the hard drive you will get the error CE-34878-0.

To fix this issue you will have to Rebuild database on the PS4. To do so follow the steps below.
  1. Turn off your PS4 completely.
  2. Press and hold the on button until you here the second beep.
  3. Connect the PS4 controller through a USB cable and press the PS button.
  4. Select option 5 [Rebuild database] and follow the on screen instructions.
Once you have Rebuild database, confirm if the error is still there.

How to Prevent error CE-34878-0 on PS4

Below are some of the ways you can prevent this error. When you are doing this you will most likely not encounter this error.

1. Always be on the Latest System Software Update

Now this is one of the simplest methods of avoiding the error CE-34878-0 on your PS4. Just keep your PS4 console up to date and you will lower the risk of getting the error CE-34878-0.

Not only will this prevent this error from happening but a system software update also fixes some other issue on your console and keeps it running smoothly.

2. Update your Games

This is also another simple way of avoiding the error CE-34878-0. Always ensure your games are on the latest update so that every bug that was in the previous version is fixed. This way you will not have to worry about the error CE-34878-0.

3. Rebuild Database regularly 

Rebuilding database regularly will keep your hard drive functioning properly and improve its performance making it easier for the PS4 to access files on the hard drive. You should Rebuild database regularly on your PS4. 

How much is regularly? Well I would suggest maybe once or twice in a month this way your hard drive will always be at its highest performance.
