The PS5 controller also known as the DualSense Wireless Controller is a controller that comes with the PS5 console. It is one of the most used accessory on the PS5. However you maybe experiencing some issues with your controller such as blinking a blue light.
Your PS5 controller is blinking blue because it can't synchronize with the PS5 console. This usually happens because of a software bug, low battery or a connection issue.
Software Bug
When there is a software bug or the console has stopped responding you won't be able to pair your DualSense controller. The controller will blink blue because the console is not responding and will not respond to connecting to the controller hence the blinking blue will continue.
You can simply fix this by restarting you PS5 console.
My PS5 controller is still blinking blue after restarting my console
This could be because the console was not completely off but rather in rest mode. This happens when you press the power button on the PS5 console.
Instead of turning off the console when you press the power button, The PS5 goes into rest mode.
When the PS5 is put into Rest Mode the system software still operates and doesn't completely turn off. This means that every bug error that happed in the system software will still persist when you wake the console from Rest Mode.
To completely shutdown the PS5 press and hold the power button until it shuts down (when you hear a beep) and then turn it back on.
Press the PS button and see if the controller connects other wise connect it to the PS5 using a USB cable to re-sync it.
Connection Issue
Another reason for the blue light blinking on your PS5
controller is a connection issue. If the controller can't establish a
connection with the console, it will keep blinking blue. To fix this issue, try
resetting both the controller and the console. You can do this by pressing the reset
button on the back of the controller.
How do I reset my PS5 controller?
You can reset your PS5 controller by pressing in the small hole behind the controller with a SIM card tray eject tool or preferably a paper clip.
The hole is located just next to the SONY label.
Both my PS5 controllers are flashing blue
If both your PS5 controllers are flashing blue then turn off without connecting to the console, then it a software glitch.
The PS5 can sometimes glitch and stop anything from pairing with it. This usually happens when it is from Rest Mode or it did not boot up to well.
To solve this issue press and hold the power button on your PS5 until you hear a beep. Then turn the PS5 back on and turn on your controller.
Alternatively you can connect your PS5 controller to the back USB port to synchronize it if the front isn't working.
Final thought
The PS5 controller continuously blinking blue then off indicates it is unable to find it's pair. It is also a sign of the controller turning on and finding where it should pair to.
If it only blinks a few times and then it turns off, this indicates that the device it is trying to pair to is not allowing it.
