How to properly ventilate your PS5

The PlayStation 5 fan becomes loud if it is not properly ventilated and sometimes even shuts down due to overheating because of bad ventilation.

No one would want their console to be overheating and start causing an annoying fan sound or shutting down while you are in mid Game.

Here we will talk about ways to properly ventilate your PlayStation 5  to avoid overheating or your fan becoming loud due to the console not been properly ventilated.

To properly ventilate your PlayStation 5 console you will need to make sure it has an air inlet source of room temperature or better and has an exhaust where the hot air to going out to. Do not make the exhaust air exit out the same way as the air intake is being drawn from.

This will make the console to start using the hot air going out from the exhaust to cool itself. Which will result in an increase noise from the fan as it will require more work to keep the console cool because it is using hot air to cool itself.

We will talk about some ways on how you can properly ventilate your PlayStation 5 console. Here are some ways to properly ventilate you PlayStation 5 console and avoid overheating:

  • Avoid Enclosed spaces.
  • Avoid fabric materials.
  • Ensure the vents are not clogged.
  • Ensure there is sufficient Airflow.

Avoid Enclosed Spaces

One of the most common causes of The PlayStation 5 overheating is using your console in an enclosed space.

This includes using your PlayStation inside a closed cabinet, surrounded with furniture or covered with clothes.

Air circulation is greatly reduced in these situations and your Console can overheat easily. You should also avoid using your PlayStation 5 console on soft surfaces such as a pillow or bedding.

This will also decrease air circulation around your Console and cause it to overheat even more easily. If you don't want to give up using your PlayStation 5 in enclosed spaces, then you should consider purchasing an external fan for use when you're using your console.

There are plenty of fans you can purchase online or at any local electronics store that will allow you to keep cool.

While playing your console in enclosed spaces without worrying about it overheating or shutting down unexpectedly due to excessive heat buildup.

Ensure there is sufficient airflow

Make sure there is sufficient airflow around your PlayStation 5. There is an air inlet on the front right side of your PlayStation 5, it is designed to draw cool air in and push hot air out from the back.

You have to make sure the hot air going out from the back is not the same way as the air is been drawn from as this will make the console to start using hot air to cool itself making the fan work even harder.

Ensure the vents are not clogged

If your PlayStation 5 gets hot while you're using it, the first thing to do is ensure the vents are not clogged.

If the exhaust vent is blocked, then the internal fan will run faster and louder to compensate. This can lead to overheating warnings or auto shutdowns.

Over time, dust and other particles can block the vents on your PlayStation 5 console, resulting in higher temperatures within the system. The best way to avoid this problem is to regularly clean out the vents.

Avoid Fabric Materials

The PlayStation 5 is prone to overheat. To make sure your PlayStation 5 stays cool and runs efficiently, Do not put on fabric materials.

If you’re using your console make sure that it doesn’t come into contact with any fabric material this can block the vents and cause overheating.

The fabric materials can trap heat, Air and they can also affect the performance of the fan by reducing its ability to cool down the system quickly enough as the exhaust/air intake is blocked.

Ensure proper ventilation. Make sure that there is enough space around your console to allow for proper ventilation when you are using it.

How do I place my PS5 for proper ventilation?

To ensure that your PlayStation 5 doesn't overheat, you do have to make sure it's properly ventilated. The way you place your PlayStation 5 doesn't really matter.

You can place it vertically or horizontally and nothing would be wrong with it, as the vents are not affected in anyway. what really matters is where you put it.

Does the PS5 stand help with ventilation?

No, unfortunately the PlayStation 5 stand does not help with ventilation. The vents are on the right most of console when the console is laying flat (horizontally) and on the top when seated vertically on the stand.

The vents are designed to allow air to flow through in whichever way you place it, either vertically or horizontally.

The PS5 stand was designed to provide a stable place for you to place your PS5.

Can I put My PS5 in the Cabinet?

It really depends on whether you are using it or storing it, if you are storing it well then you have nothing to worry about.

But If you are planning on using it while it's  in the cabinet it would really depend on the type of cabinet you want to put your PlayStation 5 console.

Below is a very good example of a recommended cabinet to place your PS5 for proper ventilation as it has enough air circulation following the PS5 design.

What type of cabinet is good for PS5 proper ventilation?

Any cabinet as long as the air can flow in the front (Air intake), out of the back exhaust and somewhere, then you are good.

The more air you can get into your cabinet, the better. It’s also important to make sure that you have enough space between your PS5 and whatever else (cabinets, furniture) so that there is enough room for airflow.

You want to make sure that you have some sort of circulation going on in your room.

If you don't have any circulation, then you're going to end up having problems with fan noise and overheating.

So, any cabinet that has an air inlet and has an exhaust where the air is going out should be sufficient for properly venting out all the heat generated by the PS5.

Where is the PS5 air inlet located?

The PS5 air inlet is located on the right most of the console. The PS5 air inlet draws in air and cools down the console. Here is a picture showing exactly where the ps5 air inlet is located

PS5 Air inlet Location

Where is the PS5 Exhaust located?

The PS5 exhaust is located on the back of the console. The location of the PS5's exhaust is important as it allows air to escape from behind the console opposite with the air inlet which helps to keep things cool.

The more air that is able to escape, the better. The PS5 exhaust will help your console perform better and more quite. As well as helping with cooling, if the ps5 exhaust is clogged it will keep all the hot air inside the console and cause the fan to become loud and over heat.
