What is EXT port on DualShock 4 controller and what Accessories does the dual shock 4 have
The PlayStation 4 controller (DualShock 4) has many features you might be wondering about, one the them might be the EXT port left to the AUX port.EXT abbreviates extension. This port can be used to connect external accessories to the dual shock 4 controller.
The PlayStation 4 controller has its own accessories of which you can connect and use on it. Here we will talk about the accessories you can connect to the EXT port on the PlayStation 4 controller. Below are the accessories you can connect to your dual shock 4 controller.
- Charging Dock
- Dual Shock 4 back button attachment
- Controller mini keyboard.( Not the EXT port)
Charging dock
The most common uses of the EXT port on Dual shock 4 controller is charging. Sony made a charging dock for the dual shock 4 controllers which you can use to fast charge your controller.
The charging dock has a pin which goes in the EXT port. You will have to buy the dock separately as it does not come with the console. Now you might be wondering how to charge your Dual shock 4 controller with the charging dock.
The charging dock does not connect to the console but rather at the wall socket, so you can connect your charging dock directly to the wall socket. This way you can charge your controllers even if your console is off and this way is faster.
Dual Shock 4 Back Button Attachment
The Dual Shock 4 back button attachment is the second accessory which connects to the Dual Shock 4 controller through the EXT port.
The Dual Shock 4 back button attachment is used to map the buttons on the controller so that you can use them on the back. Now you might be thinking, why remap my buttons on my Dual Shock 4 controller and put them on the back.
Well the Dual shock 4 back button attachment is very useful if you have faulty buttons on your Dual shock 4 controller.
It comes in handy by re-mapping the buttons that are not working on the controller so you can just press them from the back.
Note: You don't have to worry about about the head phone jack as the Dual Shock 4 back button attachment covers the headphone jack when it is connected. it has an output head phone jack on it just on the bottom
Controller Keyboard
You might be tired or pissed about having to navigate to each letter as you type either when chatting with friends or trying to search something on Netflix or Browse.
Well the Dual Shock 4 controller has a mini controller keyboard accessory which connects to the PS4 console via Bluetooth, with this accessory you won't have to navigate to each letter you want to type but just type on your mini keyboard connected to your console.
The mini keyboard works independently without the controller, so you don't really need to connect it to the controller when using it. You will need the Dual Shock 4 controller when pairing the mini keyboard.
Now the mini keyboard does not go through the EXT port but only the 3.5mm Jack. The reason I have added the mini keyboard here is because I have seen false information going around that the mini keyboard connects to the EXT port.
The mini keyboard does not come with the console so you will have to purchase it separately.

Conclusion
These are the only two accessories that can connect to the EXT port of the dual shock 4 controller.
I have seen a lot of people taking about the mini controller keyboard, mics or headphones going into the EXT port of the dual shock 4 controller that is false the AUX can be used for headphone and mic as well.
You can also use your iPhone 3.5mm jack on the AUX port of the dual shock 4 controller and get both sound and mic functions on your headsets no special installation is required just plug them in.
